New Meeting Location

We have moved. After a year using a space thanks to Ceartas we have outgrown the location and have now moved. We now meet on Wednesdays from 10am to Noon at the East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action ( EDVA ) Offices. They are located at 14 Townhead , Kirkintilloch between Sainsburys and Farmfoods on the Precinct. All are welcome.

Canal Fest 2013

Canal Fest 2013 Another lovely sunny day allowed large crowds to come out and enjoy another Kirkintilloch Canal Festival. We had a stall selling the craft items that our members have created through the year.

Tommy Flynn came and talked to the group about the services available to teach people in the use of computers and other pieces of electronics.

Paula Brown came and gave a talk about the power of attorney documents that should be created in a timely manner for those who need them.

Jill Leggat visited the group and gave a very interesting and wide ranging talk about the activities of the Trading Standards Group in East Dunbarton.

Community Assets Map

We were visited by the team from the Long Term Conditions group behind the Community Assets Map for East Dunbarton. They were interested in input on the map and associated poster designs as well as asking for input to populate the database with local assets. Feedback was requested

Adult Support and Protection

Kirsty Kennedy visited the group to talk about the activities intended to publicise and implement the provisions of the Adult Support and Protection Act.

Seagull Trust

The group enjoyed another splendid sunny day for a trip along the canal on the Seagull Trust boats.

Marianne Maxwell visited the group to talk about the projects being undertaken to modernise and expand the tools used for audio description of shows.

City of Glasgow Meal

Bill Don had arranged for us to have a group lunch at the training restaurant in the City of Glasgow College.
It was very well done with service and cooking provided by the students.

Fiona McLeod MSP

Fiona McLeod MSP visited the group to talk about the proposed bills regarding Responsible Parking and Disabled Persons Parking Badges. The talk also continued touching on topics following on from last weeks speaker about the Welfare Reforms.

Mr Hearton gave a talk about the current and future welfare changes. He provided extremely useful details and information.

I have a recording of the talk that i will make available online and on usb drives for use with your home machines . Mr Hearton will be also be sending me an electronic version of the notes to print for anyone who was not able to be there.

A very useful talk. This information is incredibly important for our group and also to make others aware of its impact. There may be friends, neighbours and family that are not fully aware of the impact these reforms will have, it is important that we help others to not miss out.

UPDATE ( April 3rd ):
Mr Hearton checked and emailed this information;

"I have also now checked with the DWP about the reassessment for personal independence payments of people who have an indefinite award of DLA. The information we now have is that it is likely that those with an indefinite award (also known as lifetime award) and who are under 65 years of age will be reassessed later in the process.
The reassessments are to be done at random and every one under 65 years of age who is currently receiving DLA will have to go through the process. However people with time limited awards of the benefit will be reassessed first."
